    Synopsis:
A position is available for a Ph.D. scientist (biochemistry, chemistry, structural biology, or medicinal chemistry background) to investigate enzymes of mevalonate metabolism/isoprenoid biosynthesis. Recombinant forms of these enzymes from animals and human pathogens (protozoa; bacteria) are available in our lab. Additionally, tight binding inhibitors (metabolite analogs) are available to support these studies. Several drug-like compounds have been implicated as potential inhibitors of these enzymes and these will also be evaluated to determine specificity and potency. Appropriate compounds will support collaborative structural work on enzyme-inhibitor complexes, leading to expanded structure/function studies.

Chemical synthesis of enzyme substrates/inhibitors as well as expression/isolation of recombinant proteins will be required for pursuit of the project. Experience with structural biology or computational approaches to study enzyme-ligand complexes would be an advantage for the candidate. Other requirements include the ability to pursue a project with some independence and a record of publications from previous research.

The laboratory is located in an attractive urban university campus, adjacent to pleasant residential areas as well as many venues for cultural and social activities. Position appointments include a generous fringe benefit package. Salary will be commensurate with appropriate experience. Interested candidates should forward a CV and contact information for professional references to:
